Entrepreneurship and innovation have become two of the most frequently used words in discussions and analyses about competitiveness of companies and countries.
It is not very difficult to see why.
The flat world continues with breathtaking speed to commoditize products and services making it increasingly more difficult to compete in a meaningful way without having an “entrepreneurship and innovation” edge.
Innovation is the key instrument that organizations have to rely on to create a significant competitive differentiation. Entrepreneurial drive on the other hand is what allows companies to reap the benefits this superior and differentiated competitive position generates.
The need for more entrepreneurs with more innovative products and services to create significant value through their enterprises is now universally accepted as a “must-have” growth driver by all countries regardless of their position in the development curve. In fact in the US, the country that is the hotbed of innovation and entrepreneurship, these same concepts are being touted very loudly as the saviors of the weak economy and unemployment associated with it.
Turkey is no different and in fact in even more need of such entrepreneurial drive and innovation. In Turkey too, we must do all we can to support what we at Endeavor call “high impact entrepreneurship” and create an ecosystem that lends itself to more innovation.
That is why, ten years ago at iLab, we set out to support Turkish entrepreneurs and their innovative businesses, especially those operating in the Internet sector. I am proud to say that we are now stakeholders in some of the undisputed market leaders of the Turkish Internet sector. I am also confident that, thanks to the experience of the last ten years, today, we are even better equipped to identify tomorrow’s leading entrepreneurs and to support them financially and otherwise.
As I welcome you to our new website, I invite you to look at our portfolio companies, read about our investment philosophy and finally meet our team . As we are excited to see the entrepreneurial spirit displayed by many young and experienced entrepreneurs, we are eager to invest in their enterprises and see them grow to market leaders. It is our hope that our website reflect these sentiments.
I would like to extend a special welcome to entrepreneurs at all phases of their growth and remind them that our investment is in the people and their innovative ideas and not the ideas alone. Ideas and plans do not amount to much unless they are executed under the extremely challenging marketplace where the entrepreneurship is the deciding factor between success and failure.
